Animation style continued

I like this style of animation as it feels like it pays homage to the old comic book animation and i think it would fit really well with my aesthetic  problem is although it is an accepted style of animation it feels like a cop out as it is so simple, wondering if there is a way around this....

I've also discovered that the style of drawing I would like to create is called inking, it a comic term from when they inked over the pencil drawings to give the strong black and white aesthetic, there is various levels of detail in these images and finding the right balance will be the trick
